Larry Joe Maddox, 79, died February 7, 2023 after a short battle with pancreatic cancer and Debra Sue DeBolt Maddox, 77 died peacefully on February 14, 2024 after several years of declining health. Both were born and raised in Anderson. Larry, a 1961 graduate of Highland High School, attended General Motors Institute. Debra, a 1964 Anderson High School graduate, studied at the Methodist Hospital School of Nursing.
The two met on a blind date and it was “love at first site”. They were married for 55 years.
Larry was an engineer of 30+ years for the Delco Remy Anderson Process Engineering Division of General Motors, while also working as a full-time farmer. He later started his own business, SyncroPlus Engineering. Debra worked as an RN for Community Hospital, and then a homemaker for several years, before returning to work for the Madison County Health Department, and various nursing homes in Indiana and Oklahoma as a Director of Nursing. Upon retirement, they split time between Indiana and Colorado to be near their children and grandchildren.
The couple supported each other through every dream and adventure. They loved listening to Broadway musicals on road trips with their beloved Miss T. They shared many great parties and ski trips with family and friends. They also enjoyed watching football and old westerns together.
Larry loved a good project and could creatively make or fix anything. He was also a master Tetris-style packer which came in handy on the many moves in which he was involved. Debra made forever friends wherever they went and loved to host parties. Her New Year’s Eve, Indy 500, and football events were the best.
Larry and Debra are remembered by their daughters Cynthia Miller and Melissa Marshall, as well as grandchildren Ian Marshall, Kyleigh (Kolin) Silva, great-grandchildren Karson and Kinsley Silva, Debra’s sisters Toni (Craig) Hughel and Vicki (Robert) Stallman, as well as several cousins, nieces and nephews.
They were preceded in death by their parents, Carl and Gertrude (Weber) Maddox, Richard and Marilyn (Bridges) Debolt, as well as Larry’s brother, Donald H. Maddox.
Respecting their wishes, we choose to remember them together with a memorial service to be held in the Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery Chapel on March 14th at 2:30pm with visitation beginning at 1:30pm.
Both were generous with their time, serving with the Red Cross after the Oklahoma City bombing, and with their resources, donating to causes they were passionate about. In lieu of flowers, please spend time as a volunteer or donate to your favorite charity in their honor.
