David W. Coats

David W. Coats, 73, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away on December 14, 2019. He was born October 17, 1946 in Crawfordsville, Indiana. Raised on a farm near Waynetown, David is a 1964 graduate of Alamo High School.

David attended Vincennes University for two years. While living in Vincennes, David met the love of his life, Nancye. Shortly after getting married, David entered in the US Army eventually serving in the Vietnam War.

David spent his career as a small business owner and truck driver before spending 10-plus years working and eventually retiring from the Indianapolis public library system.

David is preceded in death by his parents, Homer “Bill” Coats and Ruth Coats and a sister, Kathleen.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years Nancye (Wise) Coats formerly of Bicknell, Indiana; a son, Jeff (Amy) of Indianapolis, 3 grandchildren (John 20, Aaron 18, Elizabeth 16) and a sister, Joan (Dave) Philpott of Noblesville, Indiana

David’s interests included woodworking, golf occasionally and target shooting.

Visitation for David will be from 3pm - 7pm on Saturday, December 21, 2019 at Indiana Funeral Care, 2433 E. Main Street, Greenwood, Indiana 46143.
