David Shoulders

The Rev. Canon David Ira Shoulders died Saturday, July 16th at the age of 81. He was born in Detroit, Michigan and resided in Indianapolis for over 25 years. He was a retired Episcopal priest and served the Church in the dioceses of Central Pennsylvania, Chicago, and Indianapolis. He served in various capacities in Listening Hearts Ministries, as a trustee, a training supervisor, and Senior Associate. He was instrumental in starting Stephen Ministries at Christ Church Cathedral. He served as a camp Chaplain at Waycross for many years, and as a spiritual director for many Cursillo weekends. He retired in 2006 from Christ Church Cathedral. As a young man he served in the United States Air Force as a Russian Linguist. A graduate of Frankton High School in Frankton, IN, Indiana University, in Bloomington, IN, Penn State University in State College, PA, and Virginia Theological Seminary in Alexandria, VA, he is survived by and will be greatly missed by his wife of 52 years, Ruth, their son, Michael (Charlotte), and by his grandsons, Sam and Nate; his siblings Chris, Tom, and Mary (Jim), and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Denver and Frances Touzeau, and his son, Jason. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Waycross Camp and Conference Center for camp scholarships, or Virginia Theological Seminary, Alexandria Virginia. Visitation will be at the Church of the Nativity Episcopal Church at 7300 Lantern Road on Friday, July 22 from 1pm to 3pm with a service in celebration of his life and ministry to follow. Interment will be private.
