David Richard Snapp

David Richard Snapp, Sr., 97, passed away on Dec. 5, 2019, at Fishers, IN. He leaves behind children David Jr., Stephen (Lynda), Kathy Evans (Robert), Christie Gardner (Paul), and Marcie Solis; 27 grandchildren, 64 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren.

David was born on Jan. 16, 1922, in Marietta, IN, to James William Snapp and Mertie Bell Creek. He had an older brother, Dale, and an older sister, Toylie. As a child he learned to play the trumpet and guitar, beginning a lifetime love of music. As a teenager, he learned the tool and die trade and had a career which included working on the famous Norden bombsight of World War II. He graduated from Shelbyville HS in 1940. On Nov. 1, 1941, he married Patricia Lea Harbaugh. They were married 74 years, until her death in 2015. Together they joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1955 and were sealed for eternity in the Salt Lake City Temple on June 18, 1958. David served in many capacities at church, including Bishop, High Councilor, and choir director. He and Patricia served a mission in the Crossroads Branch of the Church. He loved White River and lived in the same house on its banks for 50 yrs. At the end of his career, he had his own tool design business. David will be remembered for his unconditional love, wisdom, spirituality, and sense of humor. Dozens of grandchildren were serenaded by him on his beloved ukelele.

Visitation will be Fri., Dec. 13, 5-8 pm at Indiana Funeral Care, 8151 Allisonville Rd, Indpls. Funeral services will be Sat., Dec. 14 at 1:00 pm at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 777 Sunblest Blvd, Fishers. Burial will be at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.
