David “Trapper Dave” R. Dailey of Fishers, Indiana passed away at home with his wife, Anne, at his side on Tuesday, January 28. David was born August 19, 1969 in Indianapolis, IN to Richard and Amelia Dailey. David was a very caring and loyal husband, son, brother, uncle and friend who loved nature and wildlife. He was a fearless entrepreneur and always loved a challenge. David’s love for animals began in childhood, visiting his grandmother’s Texas ranch near San Angelo each summer. She gave him the nickname “Crowyote” as a cross between a crow and a coyote.
David attended John Marshall High School and the University of Indianapolis studying political science. Extremely passionate and committed to many interests, Dave dabbled in graphic design, private investigating and security, all things technology, and landscaping. Ultimately his love of wildlife and graphic design prevailed.
Known for his expertise in wildlife management, David earned the name “Trapper Dave”. He started his wildlife rescue business Hoosier Wildlife Management in 1995. He also assisted the Humane Society of Indianapolis where Anne and David met. Anne would often accompany him on his animal rescues. While he was a gun enthusiast, he was not a fan of the hunt; he was an observer of wildlife and he appreciated animals for their beauty and majesty.
His desire for adventure led him to Parker, Colorado where he worked for six years. He returned to Indiana in 2007 to seek out his true love. They were married September 19, 2009.
In 2010, David had a great opportunity to start his own sign business. Using his creative design skills and business expertise, he developed Dailey Signs, a sign making business that thrived until he was diagnosed.
David truly loved to travel and experience different places. Whether it was a day trip to Muscatatuck National Wildlife Refuge to watch the ducks at sunrise or visit a festival in any Midwestern small town, he enjoyed the road less travelled. Toronto was a favorite destination. He certainly would have continued to travel the world. A special mention goes out to the boys of the UP camp. David loved this group of guys and was deeply disappointed he could not make it this past September for the outdoor fun and camaraderie. This group of men meant the world to him, demonstrating the strength and love of brotherhood.
David was a strong spirit and had a strong will. He did not like organized religion but did think that God was somewhere ‘out there.’ He would ask, ‘why would God pay any attention to this small speck in the universe?” As time passed, the Holy Spirit worked in David’s heart and transformed his life forever. He realized Jesus stood in his place on the cross and made the ultimate sacrifice for him personally. In his last months, David gave his life to Christ.
David is survived by his wife Anne (Majewski); his mother, Amelia Dailey of Indianapolis; his sister Janet Abbitt (Marty Carter) of Springville, IN; brothers Don (Janice) and Duane (Michel) of Indianapolis; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by his father, Richard Dailey, and aunt, Marlene Thomas.
