Danny Ray Dewhirst (72) went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, February 19, 2022. He passed peacefully, surrounded by family.
Danny was born on March 23, 1949 in Danville, IL to the late Arlington and Dorris (Lowry) Dewhirst. He was the oldest of 4 children. One preceded in death, Dale Dewhirst. Surviving children are David (Pamela) Dewhirst and Richard (Constance) Dewhirst.
Danny lived much of his life in Indiana. He graduated from Lawrence Central High School and attended Indiana State University.
Danny was a committed Christian and gave his life to Christ at the age of 5 years old. He was a member of Colonial Hills Baptist Church for over 40 years. Danny served alongside his mother and father at the Regeneration Reservation Mission on the Apache Indian reservation at Fort Thomas, Arizona laboring in construction services. The outreaches of Regeneration Reservation exist to equip and encourage Native American leadership within the body of Christ to minister the Gospel among tribal people.
Danny loved music of every kind. He took a variety of music lessons. He loved poetry and put several tunes together. He was strong in history including American, World and Biblical history. He enjoyed traveling, seeing many parts of the world and was an avid photographer. He loved watching classic movies and TV programs.
Danny was a kind, gentle and giving person. We will miss him dearly.
A Graveside service will be held on Wednesday, February 23, 2022 at 11:30 A.M. CST in the Oak Ridge Cemetery, 1441 Monument Ave. Springfield, IL 62702.
