Danny Omar Barnard, 77, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed on to his heavenly home on March 18, 2024, at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital. He was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on June 9, 1946, and was predeceased by his parents Glenn Roberts Barnard and Lillian (Russell) Wright.
After the passing of his father at the age of six, Danny was raised by his mother and grandparents in Southern Indiana, in part, before later moving to Indianapolis more permanently where he graduated from Arsenal Technical High School in 1964. Danny was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the Vietnam Conflict during the years of 1966 to 1968, earning an honorable discharge from his service. The patriotism he showed in battle and amongst his fellow soldiers never left him and became more prominent and meaningful as a source of pride and reflection in his later years.
After the war, Danny returned home to Indiana and married Linda Kay Allen on August 1, 1970. He became a deft and talented salesman for companies like Sysco Foods, among others, traveling extensively, ably serving his clients. Danny later found true joy working and designing homes for several custom builders, including Beatty Company builders based primarily on the Indianapolis eastside, and New Palestine, Indiana, where he and Linda moved as their son was finishing college and moving on to law school. Danny was a man with a huge heart, loyalty, and most of all a genuine nature. He was a lover of the outdoors, animals, and his family, all with fierce conviction and without compromise. A finer man, husband, and father could not be found in any place one would venture to look.
Danny is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Linda, and son, Aaron Barnard, granddaughter IreLynn, as well as his sister Colleen Tether (Ted) of Newark, Vermont, and brother David Barnard (Betty) of Carmel, Indiana, as well as eleven nieces and nephews.
Memorial Contributions can be made in Danny’s name to the Lutheran High School of Indianapolis Scholarship Fund, Zion Lutheran Church, New Palestine, Indiana, and/or a Disabled Veteran’s Organization of choice.
