Daniel Lee Hemphill,71, of Plainfield, died at his residence on February 4, 2020 following his battle with IPF. He fought the good fight. He was born in San Antonio, TX to the late Allen and Evelyn Hemphill on May 26, 1948. Dan proudly served his country in the United States Army; a year of that service he fought in Vietnam, where he was awarded the Purple Heart. He was a member of the Plainfield Eagles 3207; where he is a Past President; American Legion 103, and the Plainfield FOP 132 and a lifetime member of the VFW 1111. Dan enjoyed outings with his friends, and spending time with his beloved family. He retired from Eli Lilly and Co in 2003 where he had a 35 year career in production of insulin. He had spent the last 9 years bartending at the VFW 1111 serving his fellow Veterans.
Dan is survived by his wife of 52 years, Brenda Carol Hemphill of Plainfield; daughters Keri Hemphill of Crystal River, FL; and Denise Burgess (Travis) of Plainfield, IN; granddaughters Sydney Burgess (Austin) of Plainfield, IN and Shelby Burgess of Plainfield, IN; sister Sharon Cox (Calvin) of Indianapolis, IN and several nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, February 8, 2020 at noon at The Plainfield Eagles on US 40 in Plainfield, IN.
