Cory A Smith Sr.

Our beloved, Cory Alexander Smith, Sr. departed this life at home, on Sunday, March 8, 2020. Cory, a lifetime resident of Indianapolis, was the youngest child born to Sharon and Donald Smith. He attended elementary school at St. Joan of Arc School, and IPS #70 where he was enrolled in the Gifted and Talented Program. Cory excelled in academics as well as athletics. He participated in a variety of sports at Tabernacle Recreational during his youth, was involved in Scouting, and enjoyed camping and fishing. Cory also played basketball and football for Broad Ripple High School, where he graduated in 1997.

Cory attended the University of Indianapolis where he received a football scholarship to play wide receiver. He also attended Indiana University (Bloomington), and IUPUI Kelly School of Business. He spent the last ten years employed by the City of Indianapolis. Cory enjoyed coaching his children in basketball and football. His love and pride for his children was a testament to his kind heart. He enjoyed viewing documentaries and studying subjects as diverse as history, social justice, current events, sports, alien life, religion, and politics. In addition, he loved analyzing controversial issues and could always produce facts and statistics on a wide range of subjects. Lest we not forget, Cory was “The Grill Master!” Everyone looked forward to his delicious, tender, and flavorful grilled specialties. He was always happy to oblige any requests to fire-up the grill and prepare an assortment of BBQ for our special gatherings.

Cory leaves a plethora of loved ones behind to cherish his memory. He is survived by his mother, Sharon Smith; father and stepmother, Donald and Deborah Smith; his children Cory, Jr., Cameron, Aidan, and Chase Smith; sister, Stacy Myers (Woodrow); sister, Jamie Brady (Vincent); brother, Aaron Smith, Sr. (Bianca); brother, Donovan Smith; sister Sydni Smith; nieces and nephews, Courtney, Victoria, and Garrett Holland, Trinity and Vincent (Javin) Brady II, and Aaron (Ace) Smith, Jr.; a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

There will be a private visitation for the family on Thursday, March 19th, 2020.

There will be a public Celebration of Life this summer and all are invited. Details will be forthcoming.
