Cheryl Kay Cosentino, age 71, transitioned to her eternal life in Heaven on Monday April 26, 2021.
Cheryl was born August 30, 1949 in Kansas City, MO. She is survived by her daughter, Kristina Vigliaturo, her brother Marvin Morrow (Willie) and her sister Marcia Hodapp.
Preceded in death by her parents, Loren Morrow and Marjorie Lamb, her sisters Joyce Ann and Janice, and her brother Byron, Cheryl was the youngest of 6 children. She spoke fondly of the early years she spent playing outdoors with Byron - learning about nature and developing a love for the beauty in its design. As a young woman she joined the Women’s Army Corps, and after boot camp at Ft. McClellan, she was stationed at Ft. Dix, New Jersey. Cheryl was known as a hard worker and a practical jokester, and was very proud to serve her country. After her time in the Army, she returned to Kansas City, gaining employment as a legal secretary, working for two prominent firms. She took a long break from working to raise her daughter, which she always said was her proudest accomplishment. In her early 40’s she took sculpting classes at the Scottsdale Art School in Arizona with her best friend from the Army, Rosie. Cheryl’s talent was recognized by one of the instructors, famous Italian sculptor Bruno Lucchesi, who mentored her for the next several years in sculpture of the human form. She also had an internship with Tom Corbin, of Kansas City and worked with him on iconic sculptures such as the Kansas City Firefighters Memorial, and a bust of Dick Howser, former manager for the Kansas City Royals. In the early 2000’s she uprooted her life in Kansas City and spent time creating adventures and making friends in Omaha, NE., Durand, IL., and Reinbeck, IA., before moving to Indianapolis, IN. in 2010 to live out her later years near her daughter.
In 2015, Cheryl became a resident of Magnolia Springs at Bridgewater. She helped teach other residents to do art projects, and she designed, created and coordinated the production of over 2K hand painted Christmas ornaments to raise money for charity. She contributed to the design of the resident spiritual center, and was proud to be a part of the community. She freely shared her words of encouragement, sense of humor, time and talents to brighten the lives of residents and staff, as well as the lives of her hospice care team.
Cheryl left her mark on this world through her vibrant smile, her selfless generosity, her effervescent spirit, her incredible artwork and her role as a mother, mentor and friend. She will be greatly missed and joyfully remembered.
Her memorial will take place on Saturday, June 5, 2021, at 2:30pm EST, outdoors at her daughter’s home in Indianapolis. Please call or text 816-506-4370 for details or directions to the service. In lieu of flowers, Cheryl requested that donations be made to Rock Steady Boxing, Inc. of Indianapolis.
