Charles Virgil Stevens Jr., age 87, of Noblesville, Indiana went to be with the Lord peacefully in the early morning on December 8, 2020 at Riverview Hospital. Born in Bonnie Blue, Virginia, on December 21, 1932 the only son of four children. He went to St. Charles High School where he played baseball. His dad moved the family up to Noblesville in 1951 to work at the Firestone Factory during Charles’ senior year. That same year, he was drafted into the army. He proudly served his country, assigned to the motorpool in Germany, chauffeuring officers during the day and playing on the Army baseball team in the evening.
He married the love of his life, Jackie Haskett ,on August 3, 1956. They had seven children that filled their lives with joy all 65 years they were together. Charles spent his working years in construction. He eventually started his own business, Stevens Construction Company, building custom homes all over central Indiana until his son took over the business in January of 1996. Then he went to work for his son for several years.
Charles not only built homes, he built a legacy of a Christian home for his family. He spent all of his efforts loving both his family and church family. He was a member and served Noblesville First Church of the Nazarene (Now The Mill Church of the Nazarene) for over four decades. He was a trustee on the church board, Sunday school teacher and superintendent, and choir member. He loved to share his music, poetry, and scripture recitation with everyone.
Other passions Charles spent his time working on when not at church or with family, was fishing and gardening. He always looked forward to getting a seed catalog each winter to pick out what he would plant in the coming spring. This year he will get to plant at his new mansion in heaven.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Virgil Stevens Sr. and Carrie Estelle Thomas-Stevens, along with his three sisters Stella (Toni) Stevens-Harris, Della StevensHarmon, and Janice Stevens-Sando and granddaughters Rachel and Hanna Hall.
He is survived by his wife, Jackie Haskett-Stevens, daughter Melinda Jones and husband Mark, daughter Michele Camp and husband Dale, son Charles III (Charlie) Stevens and wife Kathy, daughter Beth Hall and husband Michael, daughter Becky Stevens, son
Shannon Stevens and wife Nancy, and daughter Stephanie Mbathi and husband Alan Kung’u along with twelve grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren and his many cousins, nieces, and nephews that he loved dearly.
Special thanks to the ICU team at Riverview Hospital that spent countless hours with Charles in his families’ stead. He continually bragged on them and the good care he was given.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions, the family has chosen to have a Memorial Service next year with the details to be announced at a later time. Condolences can be sent to www.indianafuneralcare.com.
