Charles J. “Chuck” Burney was born on March 4, 1930 to the late Rev. James Henry and Maggie Moss Burney in Sergent, KY. He departed his life October 10, 2019 after a brief illness.
He became a Christian at a young age and attended Macedonia Baptist Church in Appalachia, VA.
At the young age of sixteen, Charles joined the U.S. Army on June 6, 1946 and served in World War II and the Korean War. He received several medals for serving his country. After leaving the military, he was plumber and owned his own business.
Charles was a member of the Amvets Post 99 and the Speedway Moose Lodge 500 where he enjoyed being around his fellow veterans and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. James Henry and Maggie Moss Burney; sisters, Ruby Burney, Louise Harris, Helen Lewis, and Jeanetta Johnson; brothers Harry Shephard, Curtis and Lawrence Burney.
Charles leaves to mourn: daughter, Roslyn Jackson, Knoxville, TN; son, Charles Burney, St. Louis, MO; sister, May Francis Hoffman and Harold (Judy) Burney of Indianapolis, IN; grandchildren, Roshana Jackson, Knoxville, TN, Antony Jackson, Phoenix AZ; Cobe and Cayden Burney, St. Louis, MO; great-grandson, Traven Jackson, Knoxville, TN and beloved niece Tijuana (John) Amey, Indianapolis, IN ; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
