Charles F. Gates, age 83, Gary, IN passed away peacefully at Indiana Veterans Home, Lafayette, IN, Thursday, April 9, 2020. after battling with Dementia. Charles is the son of Charles F. Gates, Sr. and Sarah M. (Gates) Ward in Memphis, TN.
Charles graduated from Roosevelt High School. Charles entered the service and served in the U.S. Air Force. Charles held several positions in Gary but he is most known for working at the Gary Sanitation Department and Methodist Hospital where he retired as a surgical tech. He was also a skillful boxer and a licensed hair stylist.
Preceding him in death are his parents, Charles F. Gates Sr and Sarah M. (Gates) Ward. He is survived by his son Anthony (Jacky) Gates, daughter Yolanda (Irvin) Wesley, son Alexander (Alayna) Gates and son Michael Gates. Grandchildren Jasmine Gates, Iisha Wesley, Irvin A. Wesley, Alivia D. Wesley, Jordyn Gates and Alexa Gates.
Due to the current Covid-19 pandemic, a memorial and celebration of life will be held at a later date.
