Cathryn "Cathy" L. Hudson

Cathryn “Cathy” Lynn Hudson of Carmel, Indiana died peacefully on Saturday, August 31, 2024. She was born December 3, 1955, in Bloomington, IN to Richard and Betty Pruitt. 

Originally from New Albany, Indiana, Cathy graduated from Indiana University (IU) in Bloomington and played on the tennis team. While at IU, she met her husband of 46 years, Dane Hudson. After a brief stent in Texas, Cathy and Dane settled in Carmel where they raised their family. She felt most at home in Indiana.

Cathy and Dane have three children, Lindsey Denis, Ryan Hudson, and Chad Hudson; and four grandchildren. She is also survived by her mother, Betty Pruitt, sister, Julie Reynes, and brother, Chris Pruitt.

Cathy was known as a superwoman and a connector. She took meticulous care of her health and played tennis nearly every day. She played competitively with younger players after double knee replacements last year and never backed down from a challenge.

Her grandchildren were her delight. She was always the first to sit on the floor and play games, build legos, or patiently listen to everything they knew about fish and rocks and the latest trends in clothes. They loved her undivided attention.

Cathy enjoyed her friends around the world. She stayed in touch with school friends and made new lasting friendships wherever she went. She was a long-time volunteer for Heart Change Ministries, helping women in crisis. Those women meant so much to her, she loved them and many of their children as well.

Cathy may have been happiest while gardening at her lake house near Bloomington, Indiana. She was so proud of her fruit tree this year that finally withstood the determined deer that seemed to jump every fence she ever built. She shared her love for the outdoors with anyone who wanted to visit. She brought zinnia seeds for her grandchild to grow and made sure to plant new varieties each year.

Cathy Hudson was a faithful daughter, sister, mother, wife and friend. She will be greatly missed.

A funeral service celebrating Cathy’s life will be held at College Park Church, 2606 W. 96th St. Indianapolis, Indiana at 11:00am on September 9, 2024.
