Memorial Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 3, 2021 at Eden United Methodist Church in Eden, Indiana for Carolyn Sue Titus, age 83, who passed away Tuesday, April 27th at Cherrywood Advanced Living in Richmond, Minnesota. Pastor David Crittenden will officiate and burial will be at Eden Cemetery in Eden, Indiana. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services Monday at the church.
Carolyn was born in Anderson, Indiana to James Ralph Dunlavy and Mildred (Lawrence) Dunlavy. Carolyn Titus was a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and teacher. Her family was always on her mind and loved them all deeply. She married Morris Titus on November 11, 1956 in Hancock County. In her early years, she grew up in Pendleton and then moved to a small farm in Green Township when she was six years old. She graduated, valedictorian of her class from Eden High School in 1955. After high school she went to work for the Indiana State Patrol as a secretary until her son David was born. She then went to work for Mayflower in Indianapolis until she went to college at Ball State University obtaining her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education in 1972 and her Master’s Degree in Elementary Education in 1979. She was a substitute teacher at many of the area schools until she started teaching fulltime at Playtime Preschool in Fortville and Greenfield for nearly 20 years. Her passion was helping her young students get started with their education. She was very involved with church activities at the Eden United Methodist Church, Bible Study, helping with Summer Bible School, United Methodist Women, among other programs. She loved her church and all her friends that attended there and was a member of the Eastern Star. She helped her husband, Morris with his passion of promoting the Tri-State Gas Engine and Tractor Show in Portland, Indiana, coordinating all the antique dealers back in the late 1960’s and 1970’s. She also help Morris with the Gas Engine and Tractor Jubilee, UAW Local 662 in the 1980’s and 1990’s. Carolyn enjoyed quilting, travelling, and going to tractor shows with Morris all over the country. After retiring from teaching she and Morris spent nearly 20 years as snowbirds in Bradenton, Florida.
Carolyn is survived by her children, Jane (Pentti) Maki of Mansfield, Ohio; David (Cathy) Titus of Richmond, Minnesota; sibling, Daniel (Frieda) Dunlavy of Knightstown, Indiana; grandchildren, Adam (Shelby) Perkins, Andy (Danielle) Perkins, Greta Titus, Sophie Titus, Madeline Titus; and great grandchildren, Cole, Dane, Henry, Cassidy, and Luke. She was preceded in death by her husband Morris, her parents Ralph and Mildred Dunlavy, and brother James Dunlavy.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Eden United Methodist Church.
