Carolyn Sue Mellinger

December 25, 1935 — April 5, 2021

Grannie Sue was a Christmas Gift to her parents, the late LeeRoy and Therese Evans Smith, in Hymera, Indiana. She was a gift to everyone who knew her, that kept giving tirelessly for 85 years.

She married Raymond "Darrell" Mellinger on September 23, 1955. She was preceded in death by Darrell. She was also preceded in death by her son, Darrell "Dickie" Mellinger, of Farmersburg, Indiana. And her grandsons Jaylen Darlington and Brandon Mellinger as well as several brothers and sisters.

Grannie Sue is survived by her 3 daughters. Judy Mellinger, Kelli (Mike) Lair and Peggy Darlington. 10 grandchildren Derrick Melliinger, Rance Danko, Sunny Howard (Derrill) Lacey Akers, Amy Williams (Justin), Alison Lynch, Trevor Lynch (Emily), Phillip Darlington (Kacie), Chelsea Self (Mike), Lexus Roach (Joey). 26 great-grandchildren, Hunter, Caleb, Briar, Aleigha, Sarina, Elijah, Keziah, Serenity, Honesty, Legend, Gage, Marleigh, Presleigh, Brody, Aniyah, Audrita, Carmelo, Paloma, Oliver, Archer, Kalib, Koral, Cailyn, Silas, Kinsley, and LeiLani. All of whom live in Indianapolis. 1 surviving brother, Joe Smith (Janice) of Sullivan, Indiana. Of course we can’t forget her furbaby Otis.

She enjoyed crocheting blankets for her many kids, grands and great-grands as well as watching her Hallmark Movies, Fox News and Jimmy Swaggart, and reading her Bible,

Her favorite thing was spending time with her family. When they were still in good health,

She and Darrell enjoyed taking trips to Northern Michigan, as well as being active in the Moose Lodge

Her family was everything to her. She loved hard and forgave easily. She will be so sadly missed by all who knew her.

Donations in her memory can be made to the Glioblastoma Research Foundation or Evolve Indy Rehabilitation House.
