Carolyn Frances Lowery

Carolyn Frances Lowery, 88, died peacefully at home in Indianapolis, Indiana on October 22, 2024. She was born May 19, 1936, in Humboldt, Tennessee to Frances and Charles Jones. She attended Sigall High School in Humboldt and married Claudell S. Lowery in 1950. 

They moved to Muncie, Indiana, in 1953, where they lived for 14 years and had 5 children: Charles, Claude, Carl, Crystal, and Candace. Carolyn attended Muncie Nursing School and became a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). She worked at Ball Memorial Hospital for 6 years.

The family moved to Indianapolis, Indiana in 1967 where they had one more child: Corey. After moving to Indianapolis, Carolyn continued her career in nursing. She worked at several specialty facilities where she found great joy in helping others.

In Muncie, Carolyn and Claudell were very active in Mount Zion Baptist Church. In Indianapolis, the family joined Mount Paran Baptist Church and later Second Christian Church (29th and Kenwood Ave.) which would later become Light of the World Christian Church. Carolyn loved Light of the World Christian Church. Due to health problems, she was not as active as she wanted to be but she loved to praise God!

Carolyn was generous and regularly donated to several organizations focused on helping children. She greatly enjoyed celebrating special occasions with her family (do not forget the dessert)! She took pleasure in decorating and taking good care of her home. She liked planning vacations and had a wonderful time at the beach in November 2023.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Claudell Lowery; children, Charles Lowery, Carl Lowery, Crystal Lowery, and Candace Lowery.

She leaves to cherish her memory, two sons, Claude Lowery and Corey Lowery (Heather); grandchildren, Renata McGee (Devvern), Charles Moredock, Miles Lowery, Dominic Lowery; great-grandchildren Christopher Jones, Crysta Jones, Devvern McGee II, Sir Rexton McGee, Allen McGee; one sister, Sharon Newborn, and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Services for Carolyn will be held on Friday, November 1, 2024, at 11:00 am at Light of the World Christian Church, 4646 N Michigan Rd, Indianapolis, IN 46228. Family and friends are welcome to gather from 9:00 am – 11:00 am at the church prior to the service.
