Carol McCall

March 3, 1951 — December 26, 2024

Carol Diane McCall passed away peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, December 26, 2024, at age 73. Carol was a resident of Lawrence (Indianapolis), Indiana. She was born March 3, 1951 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She was preceded in death by her parents, C. Richard McCall and Anna H. McQuoid McCall; two aunts, two uncles, and a cousin.

Carol never married and had no siblings and no children. She is survived by a cousin, Elaine (Cap) Balsley of New Vienna, Ohio and a niece and nephew and their children.

Carol was a graduate of Edinboro State College (now Penn West University) in Edinboro, Pennsylvania. An educator, she taught high school English and History at DuVal High School, Lanham, Maryland for 30 years. She took graduate education courses at the University of Maryland to keep her teaching certification current.

Carol was a bibliophile, and since childhood, dreamed of having a grand library in her home. She was an avid reader of books on a variety of topics: The Civil War; WWII; political histories; and biographies of British royal families. For reading pleasure, she favored mysteries, especially those involving pets and their sleuth owners.

Throughout her life, Carol surrounded herself with a variety of pets, to include dogs, multiple breeds of birds, rabbits, and two Guinea pigs. Carol was an avid political progressive, and campaigned for Hillary Clinton in 2016.

She enjoyed visiting historical places, and especially appreciated trips to Ireland, to England and Prince Edward Island, Canada with her mother, and two trips to Germany and Belgium to visit long-time friend and college roommate, Karen Rider, and her family.

An informal memorial will be held at Nativity Lutheran Church, north of Pittsburgh on her birthday, March 3, 2025. A Zoom link will be available upon request.

Memorial gifts may be made to her favorite charity, the International SPCA, via this website: https://www.spcai.org/about. Find and click on the "red heart donate" tab on the left side of the screen to make a donation to honor "Carol McCall".
