Carol McConnell Federspiel Campbell                    In Memoriam

Our family “Memory Maker” left her earthly home on January 9, 2023.  Although her departure was much sooner than any of us expected or wished, we know she had no fears and looked forward to the day she would meet her Heavenly Father and rejoin her family that preceded her.  Especially her parents, Nora and James McConnell, brother Stanley, bonus parents Laura and Roland Moehring  (lovingly known as Oma and Opa), her in-laws Thyrsa and Richard (Dick) Campbell, nephew Mike McConnell, grandparents, numerous aunts, uncles and dear friends.

Carol was born on November 19, 1944 in Ft. Wayne, IN, a birthday she shared with her maternal Grandmother Sophie Roemke.  She attended Holy Cross and St Peter Lutheran elementary schools and graduated from Concordia Lutheran High School.  She continued her education to begin a career as a dental assistant rising to serve as the President of the Indiana State Dental Assistants Association. Carol eventually transitioned into management and Human Resources spending many years with Manpower staffing as District and Regional Manager based in Muncie, IN. In 2015 Carol retired from working as Director of Human Resources from ClaimAid Consulting, Indianapolis.

Carol touched and positively influenced many during her 78 years.  With her extreme organization skills and a love to share her gifts of hospitality and cooking; you would find her reading cookbooks cover to cover and planning meals and events for the family, her neighbors, church and friends. Carol’s leadership skills extended to her church, Northminster Presbyterian where she had served as Deacon, Sunday school teacher, on several committees, and helped lead the Stephen Ministry program.  She recently had been appointed the chair of the Dining Committee at Hoosier Village where her talents were noticed soon after she and husband Richard had built their retirement home in “The Oaks” in 2019.

Carol and Rick shared  a full life together meeting in 1987 and subsequently marrying on 9/22/1990.  She enjoyed making and creating memories with Rick through travel and hosting friends and family at the Campbell cottage in Linden Hills, Michigan and their home in Connerwood, Fishers, IN before their move to HV. Carol looked forward to her book club, Dining Diva’s luncheons, social events, trips with the Wabash couples, dog park dates/gatherings with Dougal, and keeping up with her to do lists.

Carol is survived by her loving husband, Rick,  her son, Jeff Federspiel ( Catherine),  grandchildren Morgen Federspiel and  Evan Federspiel, brother Tom McConnell (passed away on 5/19/23)  from Woodburn, IN;  her bonus siblings Neil (Jenny) Moehring and  Beth (Greg) Overmyer, close cousins Monice and Gene Leeuw,  Farah Nasser, brother in-laws Doug Campbell,  Venice, FL and  Bruce Campbell ( Maryse Fauvel) Paris, France;  and a host of extended family and many dear friends.

Her family is especially thankful for the compassionate care she received from Ascension St. Vincent Neuro ICU Trauma Team staff during her final days. Carol’s Resurrection of Life was held and live streamed on January 28th, 2023 at Northminster Presbyterian Church.  The family requested those that wished to honor Carol’s life in a monetary gift to contribute to NeuroHope of IN, 6002 Sunnyside Road, Indianapolis, IN 46236 or Northminster Presbyterian Church Stephen Ministry Program, 1660 Kessler Blvd., East Dr., Indianapolis, IN 46220.
