Carol J. Autry of Indianapolis passed peacefully at Community Hospital North on May 2, 2024. She was 82.
Everyone who knew Carol remembered her as a great cook who, along with her beloved husband of 31 years, Rich, always greeted guests with homemade meals, a fine bottle of wine, dessert, conversation, and games.
Carol, a graduate of Indiana Central University (University of Indianapolis) was a retired CPA, who served as comptroller for Sycamore Stores and other retail companies prior to devoting her time to tax work. She spent her final working years as manager of an Indianapolis H&R Block location. During retirement, Carol and Rich travelled extensively, played golf, and spent time dining and attending shows in and around Indianapolis.
Carol enjoyed reading, sewing, gardening and, of course, cooking. She was known for making baby booties and bonnets for her grandchildren and great grandchildren, sometimes jumping the gun and knitting at the first announcements of wedding engagements. Carol gravitated toward creative pursuits, painting in her early adult years, making ceramics, crocheting, and winemaking among other pursuits.
Carol was preceded in death by her husband, Rich, and her parents Mario and Dorothy Dodaro; her brothers John, Don, Fred and Jim Gaspar. She is survived by her siblings Val (Joe) Lippie and David (Noreen Fogarty) Dodaro; children Carleen (Paul) Peaper, Lori Dabrowski, and Steve (Alma) Dabrowski; Grandchildren Paul (Kelsey) Peaper, Lucia Dabrowski; Great-granddaughter Ava; her stepdaughters Kelly Ríes (Kent von Burg) and Lisa Autry (Jeff Ellen); Step-grandchildren Aly (Reed), Robby (Eryn), Jake, Gabrielle (Dirk) and Ryan; step-great grandchildren Theo and Reece.
