Carl was born in Indianapolis on November 27, 1928. He was a graduate of the 1947 class of Muncie Central High School. Carl served in the Army from 1951-1952 after completing radio school in the former Japanese Naval Academy. He was assigned to the South Korean army during the Korean Conflict.
After being discharged, he completed his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees at Ball State University. Carl was an educator in the Anderson Community School Corporation for 30 years. He was a devoted Cincinnati Reds fan. Carl was an expert chess player and coach. As a chess coach he took his students to the Chess Nationals where his team placed second. He enjoyed traveling with his wife in his retirement years. Carl had a deep love of cats and they adopted many over the years.
He was preceded in death by his first wife (Nancy), two sons (Carl Edwin and Brett Andrew) and brother (Edwin). He is survived by his second wife of 32 years Charlene, sister Carole husband (Scott) McNeese, three stepsons Kerry Clark wife (Arla), Jeffery Clark wife (Gail), John Clark, six grand children Jake Pippin wife ( Mandy), Brittany Topping husband (Verdayne), Kyle Clark wife (Kassie), Sean Clark, Megan Clark, Matthew Clark, three great-grandchildren Bailey Pippin , Cameron Pippin and Oaklynn Clark.
A celebration of life will be held at a later time.
