Carey Herring, 69 of Indianapolis, IN passed away June 15, 2024, in his home.
Carey was born March 28, 1955 in Dothan, Alabama to the late Robert and Hazel Herring. He graduated from St. Augustine High School in St. Augustine, Florida in 1975.
Carey married Debra (Roberts) Herring on October 4, 1997 and quickly became a part of a large premade family.
Carey enjoyed being outdoors. He enjoyed fishing, hiking, and camping trips with family. He enjoyed sitting out by the fire with a cold one, chatting and taking in all the natural beauty. He enjoyed out of state fishing trips with friends, as well as hitting the local spots and fishing with his grandchildren.
Carey was a dedicated employee at Harding Poorman, where he worked as a receiving associate for over 25 years.
Carey is survived by his wife, Debra Herring; siblings, Sherry Mims, Theresa (Bob) Mathis, Robert (Tricia) Herring, Mary Ortagus, and John (Karen) Herring; seven children, Rachel (Albert) Decker, David Smith, Dinah (Doug) Humble, Esther Lamb, Helen (Joe) Smith, Malachi (Melody) Smith and Sarah Tate; seventeen grandchildren, Ashley Scott, Caitlyn Smith, Ethan Smith, Ryan (Taylor) Decker, Nate Decker, Heather Humble, Ashley Humble, Trevor Byrd, Tanner Byrd, Gabe Lamb, Gavin Lamb, Claire Story, Jasmine Wires, June Kizzee, Jayden Smith, Shayla (Meredith) Tate, and Hunter Knapp; as well as 9 great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Hazel Herring; brother, Benjamin L. Whittington; nephew, Daniel Raulerson; and great grandson, Knox Decker.
Visitation will be held on June 27, 2024 from 4pm-6pm at Indiana Funeral Care, Greenwood Chapel. A memorial service will immediately follow at 6pm.
