Bruce Allen Watson, a man of boundless intelligence, curiosity, and warmth, passed away March 3, 2025, at the age of 76. He was known for his keen insights, unwavering optimism, and signature sparkly blue eyes. Bruce was a beloved husband, brother, and friend who left an indelible mark on everyone who knew him.
Bruce was born in Ithaca, NY on February 9, 1949, to Donald James Watson and Barbara Bailey Reid Watson. He grew up with an insatiable passion for learning, leading him to pursue degrees in both psychology and electrical engineering at the University of Rochester. His love for technology, media, and the science of the universe was evident in everything he did, from his career to his extensive collection of classical and modern music.
Bruce’s life was defined not only by his intellect, but also by his deep connections with others. He shared 36 beautiful years with his husband, Mark Seguin. They met in Syracuse, NY, in 1989, built a life together in Indianapolis, and married in Provincetown, MA, in 2010. Their bond was one of deep understanding, joy, and shared adventures. Bruce's former wife and dear friend, Gail Watson, also remained an important part of his life, being close by during his courageous battle with leukemia.
Bruce’s passion for music was not just about listening – it was about experiencing. He felt an overwhelming ecstasy, enthusiasm, and excitement when immersed in musical events, surrounded by thousands, united as one – a perfect reflection of the energy and love he carried into every part of his life.
He was a passionate debater and a seeker of truth. He believed in the power of meaningful conversation. He knew the perfect moment to share a clever thought passing through his mind. Bruce’s quiet nature, inviting giggle, and contagious laugh will be dearly missed. His joy for life was carried into everything he did, and for those who were lucky enough to know him, their memories remain forever linked to his spirit.
Among Bruce’s proudest moments was completing the New York City Marathon on October 22, 1978, a testament to his perseverance and love of running.
Bruce had a spiritual journey as vast as his intellect. He grew up and was baptized a Christian. He studied many religions and later embraced the Bahá'í Faith and Judaism before ultimately finding his own truth in a worldview of love and human connection.
He is survived by his devoted husband, Mark; his brothers, Donald Craig Watson (Toby) and Douglas Reid Watson (Diane) of Connecticut, (Fmr: Betsy); and his beloved nieces and nephews, Neva Watson, Joshua Watson, Emily Watson, Rachel Machowsky, and Caroline Watson. He was also cherished by his sister-in-law, Shari Tyo (Randy), along with their children, Amanda Turskey, Samantha Stearns, Jordan Tyo, and Justin Tyo.
A private interment will be held at Calvary Cemetery in Massena, NY, where he will be laid to rest near family, as it was his wish to be cremated. His ashes will be scattered by the ocean in Provincetown, MA, where he and Mark were married, fulfilling a plan they had long held dear.
Bruce’s brilliance, kindness, and love of life will never be forgotten. His memory will live on in the music he cherished, the knowledge he shared, and the hearts of those who loved him.
