Bruce Allen Wakeley

Bruce Allen Wakeley, 68, of Indianapolis, and formerly of Danville, Illinois, died at 7:47 am on Wednesday (February 23, 2022) at his home.

Bruce was born July 25, 1953, in Danville, to Robert A. and Juanita M. Wakeley, and they preceded him. He graduated from Danville High School in 1971, and later, in 1998 graduated with honors from DACC. Surviving are: a daughter, April (Dan) Holtz of Murfreesboro, TN.; two grandsons Gregory Michael Emery, and Corbin Daniel Holtz, also of Murfreesboro; two brothers Robert A. Wakeley II, of Tulsa, OK., and Stewart W. Wakeley of Louisville, KY.; two nephews, Robert III, and Adam (Cathy) Wakeley, and a nice Tiffany.

Bruce was an electrician at the General Motors Central Foundry in Tilton, IL. For 23 years before transferring to Allison Transmission in Indianapolis, in 1998. He retired from Allison Transmission on January 1, 2004. Since retirement, he has enjoyed traveling, and volunteering with the Salvation Army.

Bruce worked, as a volunteer, with the United States International Six Day Enduro Team since 1985. He worked his way up from helping at a gas stop, to managing the entire USA team from 2004-2011. Bruce was very proud to represent the United States and the USA’s riders at international competitions for more than 25 years. He was a charter life member of the American Motorcyclist Association, and an avid motorcycle racer for 25 years. He was a lifelong Bears, Cubs, and Illini fan. Bruce also was a member of Saint James United Methodist Church, in Danville, IL.

Per his wishes he was cremated, and there will be no formal gathering. Memorials may be made to the American Motorcyclist Association’s ISDE fund, 13515 Yarmouth Dr., Pickerington, OH 43147, of Dakota Boys Ranch, P.O. Box 5007, Minot, ND 58702-5007.
