Brian Dean Metzger, age 68 of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away August 18, 2024. He was born January 14, 1956 at St. Vincent Hospital to parents William T and Beverly A Metzger two minutes before his sister, Dawn.
As a child, age 10-14, he had a love and skill for building large outdoor multi-room box forts and a three story tree house including a garden hose “fire escape." He played trombone for a year in elementary school. Had creative and artistic talents, with impressive drawings and paintings.
He enjoyed every part of scouting from Cub Scouts through his achievement of top rank of Eagle Scout.
He attended School 11 and Broad Ripple High School where he received the AIA architectural design award and was an active Key Club member, graduating in 1974. He attended Ball State University, graduating in 1980 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Architecture and Planning. He later (1994) completed two AutoCAD certifications at Ivy Tech, graduating at the top of the class.
Brian was a long-time member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church. He married there, marriage 1993-2003. Through the church’s involvement with Habitat for Humanity, he volunteered often, guiding some of the construction as well as painting.
He worked for over 20 years at various architectural and construction companies locally. Early in his career, he was employed by Wilhelm Construction, overseeing a part of Union Station’s construction. Later, he primarily worked for architectural companies in residential homes design and as draftsman. For a housing subdivision his company was designing, he was given the honor of naming one of the streets exactly as he wished, so Indianapolis has a Metzger Court.
He later worked several years for Carey Limousine which included chauffeuring Hollywood celebrities occasionally. For a time, he was a member / volunteer with Indianapolis Ambassadors which he very much enjoyed.
Brian is survived by his twin sister, Dawn Wafford, half siblings Beth Ann Metzger and Will Metzger, uncle Ron Metzger, nephew Paul Wafford, nieces Kristin Wafford and Michelle Mannweiler, her husband Eric, cousins Lori Sweger and Greg Brown, and Greg's wife Rebecca.
