Brady Boyd Gruemmer

August 21, 1961 — February 21, 2020

Brady Boyd Gruemmer, son of Christa Elder and Bruce Gruemmer, born August 21, 1961 in Iowa City, Iowa and died February 21, 2020 in Indianapolis, Indiana, of undifferentiated small cell cancer.

Brady was a much loved brother to Paige Gruemmer, Brooks Gruemmer and Lesley Gruemmer FitzSimons. He was a generous, kind and loyal brother who was always proud of his siblings’ accomplishments and delighted in their happiness. Brady was an involved, attentive and always entertaining brother-in-law to Kim Kelley Gruemmer and Phil FitzSimons and uncle to Nolan, Lane and Reece Gruemmer, Reagan and Conrad FitzSimons. He was the kind of person who always took the time to find the most thoughtful or unique gift, to tell funny stories and jokes, and to check in during difficult times. Brady has left a legacy of unconditional love.

Brady had a passion for music, and finding new or obscure music and musicians. He appreciated photography and other creative pursuits, politics, movies and the company of all kinds of people, allowing for and celebrating differences in others. Those who knew Brady always note his love of laughter, conversation, and the occasional prank. He had a particular talent for finding local haunts and dives, and sharing those finds with others. Brady lived much of his life in Indiana, but also lived a decade in New Orleans. He loved the culture of New Orleans and enjoyed showing others around the city.

Brady graduated from Madison Consolidated High School in 1980 and Indiana University in 1984. At I.U., he was Vice President of Pi Chapter, Beta Theta Pi fraternity, and was active as an alumna, organizing their 150th Anniversary, and serving as a graduate advisor. Throughout his career, Brady worked in the hospitality and restaurant industries.

A gathering in Remembrance of Brady will be held on Saturday, February 29th from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm at Capri Restaurant, 2602 Ruth Drive, Indianapolis, Indiana, with a few remarks from the family at 2:30 p.m. All friends of Brady’s and his family are welcome. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Humane Society of Indianapolis.
