Beverly McDaniel Young-Bowling, 72, passed away peacefully on Jan 9, 2020, surrounded by the laughter and love of her children and grandchildren after an extended battle with Alzheimer’s and dementia.
Born February 6, 1947, to Joseph and Pauline (Kirchoff) McDaniel, in Evansville, IN, Beverly (Bev) devoted her personal and professional life to caring for others without hesitation, often putting others needs before her own. A graduate of the University of Evansville, Bev’s professional career was spent in the service of others, both in the teaching profession in Evansville, IN, then later working for the Indiana Department of Child Services in Jasper, IN and Indianapolis, IN before retiring in 2009.
Bev was a devoted member of Salem United Church of Christ in Huntingburg, IN, donating her time to teaching Sunday School, participating in the Women’s Guild, and directing summer Bible School. She was a passionate supporter of her children and grandchildren’s extracurricular actives as well a tireless volunteer at Jasper youth sporting events.
Most importantly, Bev’s selflessness was seen through the lives of her children, grandchildren, and the hundreds of “adopted” children she amassed over the years, from the friends of her own children to the clients and coworkers with whom she maintained close contact. If she knew you at all, you were part of her family. Bev’s home was always considered a safe space, where friends and family would spend hours laughing, talking, eating, and most importantly allowing others to enjoy a feeling of unconditional love and acceptance.
Bev is survived by her five children: Carmen (Grant) McEntire, Robert (Dana) Young, Melanie (Matt) Crosby, Benjamin Young, and Emily (Ola) Durowoju; and nine grandchildren: Gabriella, Cadence, Tanner, Ethan, Grant, Caylee, Dominic, William, and Korede. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Pauline, as well as her first born twin boys that died at birth.
Aside from her all-encompassing love of family and her masterful skills at completing complex puzzles, she always took great joy in crocheting blankets for every birth, marriage, and special relationship in her life. The family would like to request that if you plan on attending the Celebration of Life, please bring your blanket or other favorite memories with you to share how Beverly touched your life.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, Jan 19th, from 1 - 3PM, immediately followed by a memorial service at 3PM. Activities will take place at Indiana Funeral Care – Indianapolis, 8151 Allisonville Rd., Indianapolis, IN 46250.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at http://act.alz.org/goto/Beverly_Bowling or another favorite charity.
