Barry Duane Jeffries, 69, of Indianapolis passed away on November 18, 2019.
Barry was born on November 15, 1950 to Glen and Constance Jeffries. He married Denise (Pitcock) Palma on New Year’s Eve 2015.
Retired Detective Barry D. Jeffries was appointed to the Indianapolis Police Department on January 15, 1974 and retired January 17, 2006.
Barry spent the last 23 years of his 32-year career as a Robbery Detective. He must have been doing an outstanding job as he received many letters of commendation, was nominated for the Fire, Police, Deputy Sheriff Award, nominated for an ERB award, received and was honored by Mayor Bart Peterson with Proclamation that January 14, 2006 be Barry D. Jeffries Day.
In accordance with Barry’s wishes, there will not be a funeral. It was his desire that a get-together be held at FOP Lodge #86, 1525 Shelby Street, Indianapolis, IN 46203, on December 8, 2019 beginning at 3 - ?.
In preparation for the event, Denise is asking that you bring pictures and your favorite stories. She is asking that your stories be written down.
Barry had a robust baritone laugh and enjoyed telling stories of his time on the IPD force and about life in general – usually ending the story with that infectious laugh of his.
Barry attended 3 years at Indiana University, Bloomington where he became an avid IU Sports fan. He also was an Indiana Colts fan, cheering them on in good years and bad. He also enjoyed Indy Car racing and Golf, among many other sports.
Barry is survived by his loving wife, Denise; daughters, Erica (Ben) Higgins and Sarah (Matt Shaw) Palma; sisters Karen (Billie) Taylor and Kim (Jay) Zirkle; grandchildren Elias and Stella Higgins; nephew Justin Grayson and niece Lindsey Grayson.

He was preceded in death by his parents Glen and Connie Jeffries and his brother, Pat Jeffries.
