Barbara Schuleen

June 25, 1961 — February 3, 2022

After a valiant struggle with cancer, Barbara (“Barb”) Ruth Schuleen, age 60, died peacefully on February 3, 2022, at Prairie Lakes Health Campus nursing home near Fishers, IN. She was recently relocated there from a former nursing home in Glenview, IL. She chose to be relocated there so that she could be close to her loving brother, Ed, in her final days.

Barb was born on June 25, 1961, in Glenview, Illinois to Marjoiry and Warren Schuleen. She attended Maine North High School in Des Plaines, IL. Barb was a former employee of McDonald’s and most recently was employed at Burlington (formerly known as Burlington Coat Factory) for 31 years.

Barb led a quiet peaceful life. She was a kid at heart and loved collecting anything Mickey Mouse related. She especially loved the soft plush stuffed “Santa” Mickey Mouse that her brother Ed gave her for Christmas 2021 and she passed with “Santa” Mickey in her arms. Barb was a diehard Chicago Cubs fan, and we decorated her walls with Cub’s memorabilia – including a framed Chicago Tribune newspaper with the headline “CUBS WIN AT LAST”. Barb, being the true cat lover that she was, frequently reminisced about her family cats, Mittens, Mischievous, Carol and Cindy, her very first cat. Barb was a passionate reader. She loved romance and mystery novels and would routinely take 3 – 4 books from the Glenview Public Library at a time.

Frequently when we would visit with her, we would stroll the grounds of the Chicago Botanic Gardens, one of her favorite places. On each of our many visits with Barb, we always included a trip to her favorite restaurant, Hackney’s in her hometown of Glenview. When visiting Barb, after dinner we would typically spend time together playing Mexican Train Dominoes – she wasn’t great at it, but she so enjoyed being with her only family.

Barb will always be remembered for her beautiful refreshing smile and for her sweet, kind, loving and gentle spirit. She may be gone but will not be forgotten.

Barb is survived by her brother, Edward Schuleen of Fishers, IN, and sister Patricia Lister of Chicago, IL. Barb is preceded in death by her loving parents.

The family wishes to acknowledge Gerard Stocco, Darrell Guenin, Beth Guenin Bergman and Sheila Guenin for their kind and loving support for Barb during this final stage of her life. Also, for the love, care, and support of her dear friends of many years Trudy Whitacre, Hilda Barov and Veena Katarya,

Barb’s Celebration of Life memorial will be on Saturday, March 19, 2022, visitation will be at 10:30 followed by a memorial service at 11:00 AM at Holy Family Episcopal Church, 11445 Pointe Blvd, Fishers, IN. A reception at Holy Family will immediately follow the memorial service.

Barb’s interment will be on Saturday, April 16, 2022, at 10:00 AM at the Crown Hill Cemetery, 700 38th St. Indianapolis, IN.
