Barbara Ann James-Schwartz, 86, passed peacefully in Fishers IN on May 7, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. She was born July 1, 1936, in Dexter OH, a very small village in southeastern Ohio. The doctor rode a train to the home in Dexter to deliver Barb to Claude and Elizabeth Delaney, who preceded her in death.
Barb is survived by her husband of 15 years, Harry Schwartz, her sister Nancy (Darrell) Gilbert, her two children Jennifer (Michael) Scisney and Chris James, and her four grandchildren Elijah, Maliyah, Madi and Carson.
A 1954 graduate of Rutland High School in Ohio, Barb was the class treasurer and played trumpet in the marching and concert bands. Barb liked to sing, and she performed at various school functions and in her church. As a student in high school, Barb was recruited to work for the FBI. The summer after graduation, she rode a train to Washington DC where she worked as a clerk for the FBI.
Barb loved both playing and watching tennis and enjoyed managing a tennis facility for over 35 years with her husband. She loved all animals, especially her dog and 5 cats. She also enjoyed crocheting and reading. Barb was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. She will be greatly missed.
Private services for the family will be held at a later date.
