Barbara Ann Brown (Barb) was born in Belzoni, Mississippi, on February 24, 1953, to Sam and Georgia Brown, the 13th of 14 children. The family later moved to Greenville, MS where Barbara accepted Christ at New Morning Star MB Church at an early age. She graduated from O’Bannon HS, earned her associate degree at Prentiss Institute, and later attended Jackson State University in Jackson, MS.
Barbara relocated to Indianapolis in 1999 with her daughter, Sandra (and her children), creating an exceptional extended family. Barb was a stay-at-home mom, loving grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. Barbara’s zest for life extended into every fiber of her being. Everyone who knew her loved her sense of humor, her wit, and her ability to crack a joke; whether on you or with you would make you laugh. She was an exceptional cook and shared her recipes and cooking skills with all her loved ones. Her trivia knowledge of old movies and current events were unmatched.
Barbara was called home on Friday, December 8, 2023, after battling colon cancer for almost three years. She lived every day with love, laughter, and appreciation of God’s goodness, grace, and mercy. She was preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Georgia Brown; her daughter, Simone Danielle Brown, and her siblings: Curly Brown, Andrew Brown, Georgia Ella Brown, Robert Brown, Margaret Dunigan, Amy Lee Vaughn, Rev. S.T. Brown, and Elnora Johnson. She leaves to mourn her daughter, Sandra Marie Brown; her son, Derick T. Brown (Maurica); her grandchildren: Jataura Brown-Riddles, Jayashree Brown-Riddles, Joshua Brown, Jada Brown, Jasmine Brown and Derick Brown, Jr. Her siblings: Sam Brown, Jr., Mary Terrell, P. Carl Brown, Betty Brown, James Brown, and Dorothy Brown-Johnson, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.
Whoever dwells in the shelter of the most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty, I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust” (Psalms 91:1-2). Peace be still Miss Barbara, we love you so much, but our Lord and Savior loves you best. Until we meet again.
