Arlie Stacy Sr. passed away on October 30, 2024 from declining health, dementia, and Alzheimer’s disease. Arlie was born on September 28th, 1936 to John Henry Stacy and Clara Mae Lindon in Big Stone Gap, Virginia, which would become a family with 11 children. Arlie’s early childhood years were spent growing up in the coal mining towns in Virginia and Kentucky. He would tell many stories of his childhood growing up in Whitesburg and Totts, Ky.
The John Henry Stacy family moved from Kentucky to Middletown, OH to pursue work at Armco Steel Mill, or businesses that supported the largest employer in the town. Arlie worked briefly in the steel mill at a very young age but decided to go to work for a company that painted houses.
Arlie met Juanita K. Elam when they were both teenagers, were soon married and celebrated 68 years of marriage prior to her death in May 2024. Arlie and Juanita had 4 children, Arlie Jr. (Jessica) of Dayton, NV, Donna M. Youngs (Joe) of Indianapolis, IN, Todd W. Stacy (Pam) of Fishers, IN, and John P. Stacy (Michelle) of Oneida, TN.
Arlie and Juanita made the bold decision to move their young family of 3 at the time, away from family and friends in Middletown, OH to Indianapolis in 1966. Shortly after moving to Indianapolis, their youngest son, John, was born. Arlie began working for a larger painting company and was trained to become a commercial painter which started his career as a Union Painter with the Local Painters Union in Indianapolis. He was very proud union painter and was a member of the painting union until the day of his passing. Being a member of the union, he developed many lifelong friendships and business acquaintances, which led him to start his own painting company in 1992. Working for many local commercial contractors, developers, and property management companies, the new company created even more relationships and work for the new painting company which thrived for many years.
Arlie loved to fish, watch and attend Indy Car Racing, NASCAR Racing, played golf at a younger age, and he loved to travel the United States. His goal was to see all 50 states. He fell short by one state, never making it to Alaska. Arlie would tell many, many stories about their travels as they collected pictures, memories and more knick-knacks than anyone should ever own in a lifetime.
Arlie is survived by all 4 of his children, 8 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild and many nieces and nephews. One grandchild, Betsy Stacy predeceased him.
