Anne Marie (Richards) Westerfield, 81, of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away on June 18, 2021. She was born on December 14, 1939 in Boston, Massachusetts to the late William Rigby and Alice Adams Richards.
She graduated from Southport High School in 1958, and after raising her 5 children, she pursued a career in nursing graduating from IU Kokomo in 1983. She worked as an open-heart recovery nurse in the cardiac surgery unit at St. Francis Hospital in Beech Grove, Indiana for over 20 years. She was beloved by not only her family, but her colleagues for her selfless nature. As a true caregiver, she never hesitated to put the needs of everyone else above her own. She was known for her warm smile and gentle soul and will be dearly loved by all who knew her.
She leaves behind her children, Mark Westerfield, Matt Westerfield, Jill Schildt (Brian), Kris Irving (Jeff); grandchildren, Kami Wunderlich, Dillion Westerfield, Greyson Westerfield, Grant Westerfield, Katie Duncan, Adam Schildt, Danielle Irving, Megan Irving; and 4 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Mike Westerfield; former spouse, Gordon Westerfield; and siblings, Williams Richards and Tom Richards.
Of all her accomplishments in life, Anne was proudest of being a mother, and after falling ill she was devastated not to be able to have services for her son, Mike when he passed in 2019. As such, a joint celebration of life will take place Friday, June 25, 2021 from 5:00pm-7:00pm with open sharing to begin at 5:30pm to honor both Anne and Mike. Services will be held at Indiana Funeral Care, 8151 Allisonville Road, Indianapolis.
Anne’s selflessness and teaching are continued through her legacy as she has donated her body to the IU School of Medicine as an anatomical gift.
