Ann Robinson was a creative free spirit who lived in a purple house on a hill in the neighborhood of Arden. She lived there with the man of her life, Bob, who she married in 1962 in their hometown of Huntington, Ind. She raised 2 children, her son Von and daughter Ruth, on unconditional love and unconventional hours.
Ann was a prolific artist who continually explored innovative watercolor techniques and whose work is on display from New York to Seattle. Even during her years of teaching art for IPS and acting as Treasurer of ISTA, the lights in the purple house burned brightest between midnight and 5 am, Ann’s creative hours. Any event was a reason for her to create: Bob’s Michigan Club dinners; the children’s school shows; a peace rally in New York, where she stayed up all night painting the signs she, Von and his wife Miho waved as they sang with Pete Seeger.
Ann was the sun in any room and others revolved around her. Her creative energy and humor made the purple house a cosmic social hub for artists, spiritualists, psychics, and a magical place be a life-long child of hers, a place where anything was possible. In the 70’s, the purple house hosted big cocktail parties at which guest lecturers from across the globe sought the truth about UFOs and psychic powers. Even into her final week on earth, her intimate group of friends were gathering with her there. Ann was a member of Unity Truth Center and dear friend of the late Minister Charles Roth and was always fascinated by anyone seeing truth by any means.
Ann was an Alpha Chi Omega, Tri Kappa, IU Board member with a Bachelor and Masters from IU. She was a great hugger and was love to all, especially to Bob, Von, Ruth, her sister Kay and Kay’s children Tom and Laura.
On July 27, 2021 at the age of 86, surrounded by family and caregivers who deeply loved and admired her, Ann left her purple house for the last time, and for the first time as pure energy and love. She will be remembered at a gathering on August 21 at the purple house.
