Amy Juliette Ransel, age 53, of Indianapolis passed away on Wednesday, April 2, 2025 at Community East Hospital of complications from pneumonia and cancer. Amy was born on August 7, 1971 in Cleveland, Ohio to Dick and Yvonne Ransel.
Amy graduated from Elkhart Central High school in Elkhart, Indiana in 1989 and lettered in tennis. She graduated from IUPUI with a BS in teaching. While teaching Amy enjoyed creating meaningful connections with all of her students. She was devoted to changing the lives of families and children through social work as well.
Amy is survived by her children: Andrew Ransel, Adrianna Cheek, Elijah Cheek, and Inessa Hunt; grand child, Kevin Aguirre; her brother Zack (Cindi) Ransel; her mother Yvonne Ransel; her aunts Regina Halleland and Kerry Ransel; her uncle David Vitto; her cousins Nick and Angela, Lindsey and Brian; her nieces, Elly and Birdie; and her significant other Terrance Hunt. Amy was preceded in death by her father Dick and her grandparents.
Amy loved all her animals including Chuck the cat, Iggy the iguana, Scooter, Messi, and Luna, and she loved taking her youngest daughter to the Indianapolis Zoo. She adored her family and her children, and taught them to be kind, empathetic, and to be there for others. She was vibrant, free spirited, and didn’t care about anyone’s opinions. Amy also taught her kids the importance of inclusivity and compassion for strangers.
Holidays were especially important to her when everyone would gather and remind her of her childhood with her beloved grandparents, Jerry and Inez Vitto and Paul and Beverly Ransel. And she so loved spending time in Fort Myers Beach with her parents and brother and later with her own children, watching the dolphins in the back bay, fishing with her dad and finding shells on the beach.
A celebration of Amy’s life will be held at 2pm on Tuesday April 29, 2025 at Indiana Funeral Care, 8151 Allisonville Road., Indianapolis, IN 46250 where friends may visit from 2-3:30 pm (before the service). Online condolences and flowers may be sent to the family at www.indianafuneralcare.com
