It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of a truly remarkable woman, Alice (Tilly) Realty Dodson. She was the fifth of thirteen children born on April 29, 1938, in Indianapolis, IN, to James Henry Dodson (51) and her mother, Eliza (29), a beacon of light and love that graced the lives of all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Alice married Paul Mitchell Jr. on September 26, 1954, in Marion, Indiana at the age of 16. They had four children in 11 years. Paul (Connie) Mitchell, Rickey Allen Mitchell (1958–2005), Brian Mitchell (Jeffrey Wolfe), Michael (Julie) Mitchell. She adored her 6 grandchildren: Melissa (Liss) Mitchell (Eric Bellmore), Joshua (Sherri) Mitchell, Andrew Stevens, Paul William (Elizabeth) Mitchell, Jarryd (Deanna) Mitchell, Hannah Mitchell, and her 7 great-grandchildren: Adrian Trevino (Diana Torres), Morgan Bellmore, Rickey Mitchell, Vincent Trevino, Chloe Mitchell, Breonna Morley, Kylie Morley.
On January 30, 2024, in Brownsburg, Indiana, at the age of 85, Alice returned to the Lord and joined her adoring husband Paul Mitchell who preceded her in death 58 days earlier on December 3, 2023 (92).
Beside her in heaven sit her beloved son Rickey Allen, her loving Mother Eliza Ellen Sullivan, her Father James Henry Dodson, three brothers and five sisters: Christine Ballard, Margaret Huber, Roberta Johnson, Allen Dodson, Carolyn Dodson, L. Jean Dodson, C. David Dodson, Homer Dodson, and she is survived by her three sons, a brother and three sisters Arthur Dodson, Virginia Belton, Charlotte Frazer, and Thema Skirvin.
Alice was an embodiment of selflessness, a paragon of kindness, and a testament to the beauty of a compassionate heart. Her life was a symphony of love, compassion, and unwavering dedication to others. Whether it was her family, friends, or even strangers, Alice had an innate ability to make everyone feel valued, heard, and loved.
Her days were defined by acts of kindness, from the simplest gestures to the grandest displays of generosity. Alice understood the true essence of empathy, and her altruistic spirit touched countless lives. She devoted her time and energy to making the world a better place, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to be recipients of her boundless love.
Alice was a loving mother, a devoted wife, a cherished friend, and a pillar of strength for those in need. Her ability to give without expecting anything in return was truly extraordinary, creating a legacy of love that will endure through the memories shared by those whose lives she touched.
If we are fortunate, we cross paths with great people who alter the course of our lives for the better. Throughout her life, Alice chose to actively be a source of security, strength, unconditional love, and inspiration to her family and to others she met within her community. She found the good in people and invested in those she met seeking redemption.
Her warm smile, gentle words, and comforting presence will be dearly missed. In times of sorrow, Alice was a source of solace and support, a beacon of hope that inspired others to be better, to love deeper, and to live more fully.
As we bid farewell to Alice, let us remember the lessons she imparted through her selfless actions. May her legacy of love and compassion continue to inspire us all to be more caring, more giving, and more understanding. Though she may no longer be with us in person, the love she shared lives on in the hearts of those who were touched by her grace.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Alice’s Kids (https://aliceskids.org) in honor of Alice/Tilly (Dodson) Mitchell. Alice’s Kids provides school clothes, glasses, activity fees, lunch money, warm coats and many other things to children in need. This gesture will serve as a fitting tribute to a woman who dedicated her life to making the world a brighter and more compassionate place for those who need it most.
A celebration of Alice (Tilly)’s life will be held on Services are being held Monday Feb 5th at Indiana Funeral Care (8151 Allisonville Rd. Indianapolis, IN 46250) Please feel free to wear PINK to celebrate her love of all things pink.
