Services for Alexander Matthew Smith, 36, will be at 8 p.m. Thursday, June 3, at Indiana Funeral Care, 2433 E. Main Street, Greenwood. Visitation will be from 5:30 - 8 p.m.
Alex passed away Wednesday in his Indianapolis home.
A graduate of Center Grove High School, Alex was in the top of his class at Central 9, a vocational school in Johnson County where he was enrolled in the machine trades program.
His hobbies included karate, and BMX. Very athletic all of his life, Alex enjoyed basketball and baseball where his strength helped him excel as a third baseman. Coming from a music-loving family, music was always a big part of his life so it's no surprise he was a fine drummer. Blessed with a generous sense of humor, he was always able to make his family laugh; so much so, that they encouraged him to take a shot at being a stand-up comedian.
Alex worked in production and made deliveries for the family business, Three S Reproductions, Inc., on Mass. Ave., until it closed in 2005. The work also provided an outlet for his artistic skills. A creative graphic designer, Alex crafted logos and illustrations using pre-digital tools: colored pencils, crayons, and markers.
Family members say he had a heart of gold which found warm expression in his relationship with his nieces. "Uncle Alex" introduced them to life skills, showing the girls how to use a hammer and nail and patiently working with them in a parking lot to learn bicycle safety skills.
Interment will be at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Greenwood.
Survivors - parents, Jeff and Diane; brother Benjamin, sister Adriane; nieces, Madelyn, Zoey & Audrey.
