Aaron Darnell Jones, 39, passed away on October 7, 2022, in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Aaron’s father, Darnell Jones, served in the Unites States Army. The family was stationed at several different military bases when Aaron was a child, including Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama; Great Lakes Naval Base in North Chicago, Illinois; Hochspeyer, Germany; Kaiserslautern, Germany; and Fort Sheridan in the Chicago area.
In 1991, Aaron and his mother Rachel moved to Atlanta, Georgia, where they lived for two years before returning to Chicago where Aaron attended Lincoln Elementary and Lincoln High School. Following high school, Aaron and his mother moved back to Indianapolis to be closer to family.
Even at a young age, Aaron was passionate about art. He started off by drawing cartoon and fantasy characters. As he grew older and his skills became more refined, he began drawing portraits of friends and creating his own original works. His love for art never diminished, and he continued to draw and paint until his final days.
In 2019, Aaron spent the summer living and working in Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming. It was an experience that both opened his eyes to the wonders of nature and sparked an interest in photography. In June of this year, Aaron and his mother Rachel returned west to explore Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado and go whitewater rafting at Royal Gorge.
Aaron was a lifelong night owl who was always at his best when most people were fast asleep. This led to him working as a bouncer for several local nightclubs, the most notable of which was the Slippery Noodle Inn in downtown Indianapolis. He recently left the entertainment scene behind to start his own cleaning business.
Aaron had a big personality, a quick wit, and a wicked sense of humor. He made friends wherever he went and was fiercely loyal to those lucky enough to gain his trust.
Aaron was preceded in death by his grandmother, Barbara Hughes, who played an important role in his life; grandmother, Veodies Jones; great grandmother, Willie Mae Wyrick; aunt, Vesther Cathcart; and uncle, Idell Burton.
Aaron is survived by his mother, Rachel (Blake) Walker; father, Darnell (Laura) Jones; stepbrother, Avery (Amber) Walker; sister, Yvonne McMullin; aunt, Rita Hughes; aunt, Becky Hughes; aunt, Ruth (Troy) Landrum; aunt, Lorine Pastchol; uncle, Leon (Joyce) Doss; and cousins, Jonathon Dixon; Joshua Hughes; Christine Cowherd; Nikkita Oliver; and Jessica Jimenez.
