Charles Frederick Wellman, “Chick” to everyone, died peacefully on Monday, May 25, 2020 at his home in Indianapolis, IN surrounded by his family. Chick was born December 23, 1947 to Elizabeth and Robert Wellman in Cleveland, OH. He received his high school diploma from Western Reserve Academy and a bachelor’s degree from Stanford University. He and his wife, Beth, married in 1983, spent 5 years in Portland, OR before moving to Indianapolis to raise 2 children, Erin and Tom. His work at the Oregon Historical Society, Indianapolis Museum of Art, the IT Building at IUPUI and his years as an Alexander Teacher brought him much fulfillment.
Chick was a kind, gentle, smart and giving man. He was the best listener and gave the best advice. He loved doing projects and fixing things around the house (anything that required going to Lowe’s), but most of all loved being at home with his family just hanging in the sunroom.
Chick is preceded in death by his sister, Sue Vitello. He is survived by his wife, Beth Wellman; daughter, Erin Wellman (David); son, Tom Wellman (Carly); siblings Becky Khan (Mumtaz), Sandy Wellman (Rena), Bob Wellman (Mary Lou), Anne Melvin, many nephews and nieces as well as all those who he has impacted with his kind nature and warm heart. Chick was a wonderful husband, father, father-in-law, brother, uncle and friend.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
Please consider donating in memory of Chick to the American Cancer Society or charity of your choice.
